PETRIFIED DESERT TURTLE

Original Condition, looks like a rock.

This Desert Turtle was found lodged in an Arizona wash. It appears that the turtle was upside down and attempting to crawl out of its shell when it died. Much of the body cavity was filled with ash indicating a cataclysmic event.  Partial painting of this fossilized creature  reveals stunning details of what occurred.
